Carter and his T38 After leaving Craig, Carter:

-- 1971-1972: Flew F-100D/F out of Luke AFB, and then OV-10A stationed at Cam Rahn Bay and Phan Rang in Viet Nam
-- 1972-1973: Assigned to NKP, Thailand and Da Nang, VN flying the O-1E
-- 1973-1974: OV-10A IP/Wing Weapons at Hurlburt Field, in Florida
-- 1975-1978: F-4C at Luke and F-4D at Hollomn; F-4 IP/Safety at Hill AFB, Utah
-- 1978-1983: F-4E and F-4F (German B&Weapons school) at George; Germany
-- 1983-1985: OV-10A IP &17th AF Contracts at Sembach, Germany
-- 1985-1989: OV-10 IP/Chief of Stan/Eval, George AFB, CA

Carter owned and flew the Cessna 195 (1951 radial taildragger, 5-seater) during the 1980s. Since 1990, he has been flying (lead) the WWII AT-6F (USN SNJ-6) "Texan" with Van Nuys based "Condor Squadron" formation aerobatic team flying various airshow, CAP missions, and community service events around the LA and Central California area. He also flew AT-6s under contract at Edwards for Test Pilot School training, raced Texans at the Reno Air Races for 5 years, and occasionally gets a movie or advertisement.

Upon leaving the USAF, Carter formed a real estate management company which now includes offices/retail units in Southern Cal, a working farm in New Zealand, and an old military auxiliary airport (CL99-El Mirage, near George AFB) where the "Predator" is built and test flown by General Atomics.

Carter ran into Guy Gardner at Edwards (while working on the AT-6 for test pilot training) and Steve Stowe, who worked for a brief time as test boss at his airfield.


Carter and Diane have 4 children: Kristin (25, real estate), Laura (22, studying Wildlife Conservation, Jim (20, studying Micro-biology), and Julie (16, high school)


Carter is a member and flies with the Condor Squadron out of Van Nuys, CA
